Season's Harvest Cafe

The fun thing about living in Northwest Houston is we have the conveniences of the big city, with a few small town gems in the mix.

Season's Harvest Cafe is one of those gems.

Season's Harvest Cafe is a farm-to-table restaurant, serving whole foods that are in season and grown locally, using organic and hormone-free as much as possible. They are tucked away in precious little house off Grant Road, and offer a perfect place to meet friends or business associates for breakfast, lunch or coffee.

Their unique menus are posted on Facebook and change daily. I ordered the raw entrée selection of the day: Zucchini Linguini topped with raw Texas pecan and organic basil pesto which was served with a seasonal salad including home-grown sprouts, seeds, fruit, vegetables, and nuts, tossed in Raw Honey-Apple Cider Vinegar Dressing. OH MY MERCY...it was incredible! I had never ordered an entrée that was entirely raw. And check out the other two options for the day:

French Peasant Loaf Crusty French Baguette brushed with Olive Oil and filled with Organic Smoked Turkey Breast, thin slices of melted Provolone Cheese, a sprinkling of Organic Fresh Herbs, Organic Mesclun Salad Greens, Sautéed Sweet Onions, and freshly-ground black pepper
Served with choice of House Salad or Soup

Harvest Salad with Crumbled Goat Cheese
The season’s harvest of Herbs, Fruit, Home-grown Sprouts, Seeds, Greens, and Nuts topped with Crumbled Goat Cheese. Served with Balsamic House Dressing and Grilled Artisan Bread
-add Organic Smoked Turkey Breast for $2.50-

You are missing a blessing if you don't make it a point to drop by and at least have an afternoon treat. The have muffins, scones and cookies on display and a large selection of coffee and tea options.

Need directions? Google Map: 10609 Grant Rd, Building A, Houston, TX 77070 or call 281.807.9000.

They are open Tuesday-Saturday 9:00-2:30 pm for dine-in or carry out. And yes, Cypress Moms, they do offer a kids' menu. Bonus!

Donating That Candy

Ok, y'all....we've had over a week with all that candy. It's out of site, out of mind for your kids....but you still catch yourself stealing a piece here, a piece there.

Don't lie.

You've sampled your favorites and it's time to stop hiding in the pantry, eating just one more piece, and get that candy out of your house!

Need ideas?

1. Cypress Cares is collecting wrapped candy for our soldiers. There is a sweet gal in Coles Crossing that has a drop site. You can contact her here for directions.

2. Cypress Assistance Ministries is collecting candy for Christmas stockings for kiddos in our area. They are located at 11202 Huffmeister. Need more info? Click here.

More ideas to get the candy out?

Visit our shopping bazaar with booths for: fair trade vendors*, survivor made products, apparel, jewelry, cosmetics, coffee/tea, chocolate, books, crafts, baby items, and more. Hear various speakers, including a local trafficking survivor, and learn how to get involved!

Did you know that …

*There are more than 30 million humans in slavery today, more than at any other time in history!
*Advocacy groups believe about 300,000 children are bought and sold in the United States annually - selling human beings as a commodity, mostly in sex trafficking.
*Sex trafficking is the recruitment, harboring, transportation, provision, or obtaining of a person for the purpose of a Commercial Sex Act.
*These are not prostitutes. These are adults and children that are being prostituted. Victims can be male or female. 50% are children. The average age is twelve.
*Texas is the destination for 25% of all victims brought into the United States. The majority of those find themselves in Houston.

Dinner Rescued via the Sandbox

When it's over 100 degrees outside, it's not very motivating to turn on an oven to heat up your house. But with small kiddos, one parent is on kid watch while the other offers dinner and a show.

Lots of local restaurants have sandboxes to entertain those little darlins'....you just have to decide if the sand you'll bring home is worth it...

Summer Movies for a Steal

I know we have been enjoying these unseasonably cool temps in H'town but summer weather is coming and at some point you are going to want to take it indoors.

Several theaters in our area are offering reduced rate movies this summer.

Studio Movie Grill locations are offering $1/child and $2/adult tickets for 11 movies this summer. Click here for their summer line up. Movies are shown at 11 am Monday-Friday

The Houston Silverado IMAX on Hwy. 249 in Tomball welcomes families for Family Film Festival every Saturday at 10 am. Just $3.99 provides kids with "all you can eat pancakes" as well.

Cinemark/Tinseltown is offering 10 shows for $5 if paid in advance or a $1 a show if purchased at the box office. Here is the Cypress Cinemark schedule but if you visit this link, you can see other locations and the full scoop.

Where, Oh Where Are The Gift Markets?

So....my normal sources are not delivering the 411 on the Spring Markets and with me giving up Facebook for Lent...I am very much out of the know right now.

Sigh....

But here is what I DO know...

The Longwood Gift Market is this Thursday April 21st from 9 am - 7 pm at the Longwood Golf Course Pavillion.

Gleannloch Farms is having their market a week later on Thursday April 28th from 9:30 am -5:30 pm at the Gleannloch Pines Golf Club.

And I'm pretty sure Coles Crossing is having one but I have nada in the way of information..

And so begs the question....where in the world is the info for the Spring Markets?

Share what you know, girls!

Wee Wuns is a ministry of Cypress United Methodist Church. Below is the serious scoop.

Wee Wuns Weekday Ministries
9th Annual Golf Tournament
Friday, April 1, 2011 ~ Cypress Lakes Golf Club

Wee Wuns Weekday Ministries, a ministry of Cypress United Methodist Church, is gearing up for our 9th Annual Golf Tournament. The Families In Action Parent Support Organization at Wee Wuns is excited to host this year’s tournament on Friday, April 1, 2011 at Cypress Lakes Golf Club. We are a non-profit organization dedicated to the spiritual, emotional and intellectual growth of children through an Accredited Preschool and Toddler program.

Last year, donations from individuals and business owners like you helped make our golf tournament a big success! We were able to raise over $11,000 for Wee Wuns to improve our playgrounds and classrooms, purchase necessary school supplies and classroom furniture, fund teacher training and accreditation, and most importantly, provide student scholarships. These accomplishments would not have been possible without the generosity of our sponsors, donors and players.

We need your help to make our 2011 Golf Tournament another success by sponsoring a team or donating your products, services and/or gift certificates. In addition to helping your community, you will receive recognition of your sponsorship in the Wee Wuns monthly newsletter and e-newsletter (400+ copies distributed to all Wee Wuns families). This year, we are offering a variety of sponsorship levels from which to choose:

$1,000 - The “Ace” Sponsorship Level - foursome in the tournament, three hole sponsorship signs, and signage on all golf carts.
$750 – The “Eagle” Sponsorship Level – foursome in the tournament, one putting green sponsorship sign and one driving range sponsorship sign.
$600 – The “Birdie” Sponsorship Level - foursome in the tournament and one hole sponsorship sign.
$350 – The “Par” Sponsorship Level – twosome in the tournament and one hole sponsorship sign.
$100 – The “Bogey” Sponsorship Level – One hole sponsorship sign.
$175 – The “Double Bogey” Sponsorship Level – Two hole sponsorship signs.

Each level (excluding “Bogey” and “Double Bogey”) includes green and cart fees, breakfast, lunch, as well as progressing levels of recognition during the awards program and on other tournament printed publicity. We need your support to help Wee Wuns Weekday Ministry continue its 39+ year tradition of providing outstanding education in our community to our future leaders.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Sincerely,

Stacey Davis & Elizabeth Boyd

Gypsy Market

It's 80 degrees in H-town and people are beginning the planning phases of their own version of extreme makeovers for their sad yards that are left bare from crazy freeze we had a few weeks back.

And Spring brings markets!

They have a new location this time around:

4880 Louetta Rd.
Spring, TX 77388

IHOP National Pancake Day

Join IHOP on Tuesday, March 1, 2011, 7 a.m. - 10 p.m., for National Pancake Day and receive one complimentary short stack!

In return for the free flapjacks, they ask you to consider leaving a little something behind for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and other designated local charities.

Thanks to guests' generosity, IHOP raised more than $2.1 million last year. IHOP began its National Pancake Day in 2006, and since then, has raised $5.35 million for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and other local charities and given away more than 10.1 million buttermilk pancakes.

You and Your Girl Simulast

Do you have a daughter in your home? Then you need to know about Vicki Courtney and her heart for raising girls in this crazy world today.

If you have a daughter age 10 or older, you won’t want to miss out on your chance to attend her mother/daughter You & Your Girl event along with other mothers and daughters in your community. LifeWay is hosting the first-ever You & Your Girl Simulcast event on Saturday, April 9th, and we already have nearly 60 churches on board to host the event!

They still have several states that aren’t represented, but the good news is, it’s not too late to join them! Here is a list of states that do not yet have a YYG simulcast host church:

Alaska, Delaware, D.C., Hawaii, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, Wyoming

If your state is listed, they could use your help in finding a church willing to host the event! Click here to get more information on what is required. Feel free to email here with questions as well.

If your state is not listed, you can check here to find the location at which the event will be taking place in your state. If it’s not in a city close by, feel free to arrange a host church in your area!

This event will strengthen the mother/daughter bond and spark important conversations, but most importantly it will strengthen relationships with the Lord and equip your daughters to stand up to the pressures they will face in today’s challenging culture. Hope to see you there on April 9th!
